In order for me to get a realistic background for my two actors to look like they were training for dancing I had to book time in the evening to use Aldenham Schools facilities of the dance studio. To display the idea of time passing I started with their costume being casual to show that the characters were more relaxed.

After I finished shooting the dancers with casual clothes I changed the costume into more formal wear this was to create the atmosphere that there was a show/ performance they were building up towards throughout the video.

 

 
The use of the dance studio gave me the opportunity to give my shots more variety. This was possible because of the wall that was a full mirror, this therefore meant that I could use their reflection as a mid shot. This gave my video a unique idea because not many people was using mirrors within their music videos.

Editing

When starting my editing, I started with the photo-age from the sunrise, displaying my artist. This gave me a rough idea of which parts of the lip sinking I intended to use. I have tried to use as much of a variety of long, close up, and mid shots as I could while editing the main artist. Because the back ground of the artist is similar throughout the song its fairly subtle when changing the shots. I found that this was helpful because it therefore didn't draw to much attention to the change in sensory.Such as the change of position of the clouds in the sky.

To make my video not just a showcase with my artist I intend to film dancers ballroom dancing within a studio to create a cross between a show case and narrative. I am filming today to get a variations of shots, over the shoulder, high angle, low angle and panning shots. This taken me longer then expected to do because I have had to discuss times with owners of the dance studio to have it free for my filming but hopefully I will finish all of my filming by the end of the day.

I am hoping to get shots of them practicing their dancing and then to fade into their dress rehearsal. This is to represent that passing of time. However I am also intending to have a tragedy at the end of my music video to leave the audience with a sentimental effect.

Because the weather was unpredictable it took me a couple more times to get the right shot for my Showcase shots, but fortunately i got very lucky and got a better shot then my original plan. I decided that more effective shot would be a siloet. This is because I feel that it symbolises the words of the lyrics "We were the kings and queens of promise
We were the victims of ourselves"

 using "We"  represents that 30 seconds to mars are not directly talking to or refering to an idividual but to the whole populations. So i feel that using a siloet is suitable because he's within the background and not singled out showing that everyone is involved not just him.

I aimed to film early this morning, this was to
hopefully film in time with the sunrise, in order to get the right shot of my artist. Unfortunately the weather was not what was expected or what i was hoping for. However instead of not filming my artist, I took good shots which I can use within the first 30 seconds of my music video. 

 This shot establishes where my filming is taken place, also with this shot mixed in with others that are filmed in the same place which are also taken at dawn. This is to represents the songs lyrics;
"The age of man is over
A darkness comes at dawn
These lessons that we've learned here
Have only just begun"

Dear Virgin EMI,
My name is Josie McCusker and i am currently studying A Level Media studies at Aldenham School.

As part of my coursework this year, i am creating and producing a music video to a song of my choice. I have chosen Kings and Queens by 30 Seconds to mars as the song  I would like to create a music video for, nd i am writting this letter to seek your permission to do so.
