Narrative Music Video - 3

You Belong with Me

This music video displays a typical pop "boy meets girl" type of narrative. This is achieved through the literal lyrics of the songs coordinating to the literal images. Using this type of genre along with the typical teenage images the they relate to specifically the teenage  audience. This music video is exactly how I had imagined my original idea of my music video. However after doing some research of the other music videos I have posted such as: Time - Chase and Status  and Alice - Avril Lagvine, this is no longer part of my brief. I have changed my idea to not being a predictable music video like Taylor Swift has done, with the catchy lyrics, the repetitive melody. But one that has a more meaningful story line to it and shows a realistic view point. Therefore I should make more of an effect to my audience

Narrative Music Video - 2

The Time - Chase and Status ft Delilah

This Music Video expresses a moral narrative that represents multiple family environments which gives of a message to the audience. The use of genders within the video also play an important role, with having only one male as the dominant character which the producer possibly purposely did, as well as  making sure both the children were to be female to emphasis the innocence. As well as this video being narrative showing the story of a young teenage girls perspective,  it also is showcase. This is because throughout the video it comes back to quick slips of the artist for promotional purposes. This music video also relates to my brief because its sense of narrative a long with the snip-its of showcase. This video particularly I have grown a lot of interesting because its not just showing a narrative of a typical pop song, boy meets girl sort of thing. It has a moral meaning within it, this as given me some indication of what effect I want to give to my audience.

Narrative Muisc Video -1

Narrative is a style of telling a story to shape a series of events. Portraying a literal or not so literal,  images that the artist or producer have used to relate to the song.  Within my music video i intend to use literal images to convey the purpose of the lyrics. Narratives can have multiple effects on the audience but the most common use of using a narrative is to be able to take the audience through a journey that the artist has tried to convey to the audience. This particularly I would like to include within my video, I feel this makes the video have more of a purpose and makes the video more enjoyable for my audience to watch. Using narrative also is a big promotional technique, often you find that some music videos that have a narrative to it, can end up being used within films that share a similar story. For example End Credits - chase and status ft plan b
This video was featured within the movie "Harry Brown". Plan B played a character within this movie which helped the promotion of his and chase and status's music video because its made up of clips of what they have recognized from the movie itself. Also knowing it was part of a film would increase the chance of people to watch the music video if they enjoyed the movie.

Another Music video which is placed within a film because of its narrative is "Alice" by Avril Lavigne" This music video plays a part within the movie "Alice in wonderland" Avril shows the journey of Alice through out her music video, however the lyrics portray another journey that has a more meaningful and emotionally moral to the story. This specifically relates to my plans of a music video becuase before my original idea was to use literal images to portray the purpose of the song. However after researching this video I have discovered that music video's that has more then one moral meaning expresses a more of an impact towards the audience.

What is a Music Video

A music video or song video is a short film integrating a song and imagery, produced for promotional or artistic purposes. Music videos were originally called "illustrated song" or "promotional films" this became well known from when the show MTV started. MTV started for the purpose of promoting  record labels artist to showcase their new up and coming music. Since 1980's MTV has expanded much more, this has happened through the demand of the audience. Now MTV is more then just music video's its turned into 24/7 reality TV station, not only is it music videos but now its programs such as "Jersey Shore" and "16 and pregnant".

Music Videos use multiple ways to style different types of videos such as narrative videos, spectacle videos and showcase videos. However many music videos do not interpret images from the song's lyrics, making it less literal than expected. Even some music video don't want a specific video for their music they can simple have a video of them in live concert. For example Green Day- Bullet in a Bible. This type of music video is not the type of video I have planned to do for my own music video. This is because I personally feel a music video should be on expressing the lyrics of the songs.

Modern Day Covers

Here are a few modern days covers:

Express Yourself, was originally done by Charles Write. However Labyrinth who is a modern pop singer, has funked up his video and slightly changed the background music to make it sound more pop like to attract the younger generation. Also the same with Seven nation Army, originally done by The White Stripes, however the modern day version was done by Marcus Collins who won the TV show X factor. Both these music videos relate to my brief of representing a pop music video by using the bright colours and using each of the beats of the song to change the movement of the clips. This gives the effect to the audience a more pop like song.

Different Types of Music

In the Music Industry, there are multiple types of music such as; Rap, R'n'B, Heavy Metal, Pop, Western, Emo and others. I'm going to be researching on each of these genres , showing and explaining how each of them convey different videos in different ways. Some music videos such as; Heavy Metal tend to use the stereotypical imagery within their videos, like black clothing, screaming, and silver metal. This portrays the genre of the song automatically. However other music videos for example pop mainly produce music videos which are full of vibrant colour's and  use literal images to convey their imagery of the song. This relates to my original idea of my music video because I have planned to use a typical story line to use literal images, therefore using this I can convey the emotions from the song.
